A research project at UCLA School of Law is seeking a full-time research associate to conduct interviews with law school graduates who have failed the bar exam. POTENTIAL FOR TELECOMMUTINGThis position, which will lead our Java based technology design projects, is based in our San Jose, California headquarters. However, telecommuting may be considered as an option for the right (senior) candidate, who is located in the Western U.S., and is available to travel to the California office, when needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Project lead for Java based technology projects. Specify, design and implement Java applications for J2ME and Java-based handsets. Work on creating the framework, methodologies, and implementation guidelines for the team. Participate in strategic discussions involving engineering architecture, expertise training and management. Design and develop the application development environment, key processes and milestones for our Smart phone application teams. May involve some travel (10-20%) at times, to customer sites or our offshore offices, when needed.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 2-3 years Project Lead experience 8+ years overall software development experience 3+ years (in industry) development experience in wireless applications using Java/J2ME Systems architecture and design experience is mandatory. Proven ability to turn ideas and concepts into carefully designed and well-authored code. Extensive and solid knowledge of J2ME, development environments, SDKs, etc. required. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Good working knowledge of wireless networks and protocols, GPRS, WiFi, GSM, SMS, MMS. Good working knowledge of internet protocols TCP/IP, HTTP and HTTPS. Experience in working with geographically distributed teams is a strong plus. Available for some US and international travel (not expected to be frequent). BSCS / MSCS, or equivalent. ESSENTIAL PERSONAL AND OPERATING VALUES

**Applicants must live near the San Francisco Bay Area. Although this is a telecommute job, the employee will be expected to attend a meeting in person about once every 6 weeks.**
Science Buddies is a Bay Area-based non-profit organization that provides Web-based tools and mentoring for K-12 students who are doing science fair projects. In 2007, five million students and teachers will visit our website for help. One of our most popular resources is our online library of “Project Ideas” that offer unique and challenging topics for science experiments. These Project Ideas are intended to present information in such a way as to captivate the interest of middle and high school students and/or teachers in search of science experiments.
Each Project Idea is designed to:
• Attract the student and capture his or her imagination
• Provide enough background information and guidance to get the student off to a great start
• Suggest variations on the primary idea, so that the student has plenty of room for creativity
We are seeking an editor to work with the authors of our online materials.
Responsibilities:
• Refine, maintain, and enforce the usage of our Style Guide
• Work with our authors to simplify sometimes intimidating topics to make them accessible to students and teachers without losing sight of key science terms and concepts
• Copyedit and proofread all material before it is posted to our website
• Write news items and other general information for our website
• Coordinate the movement of materials through the website production process
Minimum Qualifications:
• BA or BS
• Minimum 2-3 years experience writing/editing scientific or technical material
• A passion for science and developing content that will engage students of all ages
• Must have excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Must be detail oriented
• Must be self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Basic HTML skills a plus
• Well-equipped home office with high-speed Internet connection
Hours and Schedule: - Flexible schedule (but minimum of 20 hours per week)
